Are you going to enjoy your favorite Dim sum in Singapore at a Chinese Restaurant? If you know how the authentic Dim Sum taste, then you must also be knowing how to traditionally eat them with chopsticks. Well, even if you know how to hold the chopsticks, & eat with it, then also there are many other aspects to take care of to ensure that you do not look unlearned when eating Chinese food with chopsticks.
Here we have mentioned few etiquettes, which you ought to remember when enjoying your Chinese food at the nice Chinese restaurant in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, or any other place.
Do not forget the food sharing rules:
At the table, you might have to share large plate of nicely prepared Dim Sum with your friends or family. It is not good to dive into a common plate with the sticks which was in your mouth in the previous second. Ideally, you can use the serving chopsticks (the ones which neither touched your eating bowl or your used chopsticks). Also, you can use the other side of the sticks, i.e. the broader side (hopefully these are not chewed by you) to serve the food in your plate.
How to handle sticks when not eating with it:
Once the food gets into your mouth, then what do you do with the stick? Here are some things, which you must strictly not do:
Sticking the chopsticks in the food is considered as a bad omen, so do not do this. Also, doing this is reminiscent of incense at funerals.
Stabbing food is considered impolite. So make sure you do not behave rude at the dinning table.
Passing the food from chopstick to chopstick is not just a bad table behavior but also a funeral protocol.
When you are done eating then do not pass the chopsticks but just lay them on the left side of the bowl or plate.
Pointing to others with the chopstick is disrespectful. Avoid doing so while eating with the sticks.
Do not create music with the chopsticks and the bowl. It is another bad table manner.
If something gets struck in your teeth, then do not even try to use the sticks to get it out. At first, doing this will not help you much and moreover, it would also depict you as a bad mannered person.
If even by chance the chopsticks drop on the ground then sincerely apologize. It is said that if a chopstick falls, then the ancestor of the host gets disturbed.
So, when you visit your favorite Chinese restaurant to enjoy your favorite Chinese, then do keep these points in your mind.
